Jass Stewart, Special Assistant to the Chief of Staff, DESE, will provide the latest information on Next-Gen MCAS in his keynote address beginning at 4 PM. Simone Johnson, Administrator for Mathematics Test Development, will join Jass to talk about what has changed and what has not.
Three breakout sessions by grade band will follow the keynote address.
- Grades 3 – 5 will be led by Mary Lou Beasley, Mathematics
Test Developer for grades 3 - 5
- Grades 6 – 8 will be led
by Simone Johnson, Administrator for Mathematics Test Development
- Grade 10 will be led
by Jim Verdolino, Mathematics Test Developer for grade 10 and Haley Freeman,
Assistant Director of Test Development.
Grades 3 -5 and 6-8
Breakout Sessions will address the following:
- An overview of the new test designs for the 2017 Next
Generation MCAS
- Similarities and differences between the 2016 MCAS tests and
the 2017 Next Generation MCAS
- Calculator Restrictions
- New item types
- Demonstrations of some technology enhanced items
The grade 10 Breakout Session will be a discussion led by Department staff on preliminary ideas for the Next Generation grade 10 MCAS.

high school competency depend upon pre-high school standards?
- What securely held
knowledge is important?
- Which high school standards are better suited for large-scale assessment?
This session will require active
participation.
Dinner will begin at 6:30 with a panel discussion/question and answer session at 7:15.
